by many accounts the largest clash this game has had to date thus far left the attackers with no serious injuries and the defenders dead to a man. and those were actual warriors, not farmers

Yep, and it looks like it will stay this way until we get some sort of active claim/town defense systems. Sadly.

Like bell towers....that shoot lightning...

they just need to make it harder to protect your hearth from being summoned I guess :s

It will take a greater mind than mine to find the solution, but I think I can at least posit the problem.

There should be a slight-to-moderate defensive advantage, as it makes general sense and is (dare I say) realistic, but on the other hand, defensive advantage increases aggro players invulnerability under the current justice system.

maybe being able to summon people from beyond walls, like the more scents you have of a person the farther from their hearth you can summon them...
with stealth being the protectiong factor.. or something..

maybe bell towers will give you more scents, and things in their radius are much harder to destroy, and make some chests/containers invisable, not exactly realistic, but neither is the lifting of some objects, its just the idea that it represents.
