Onionfighter wrote:Ok, here is another part of the story.

I tracked two people from recent murders in Gangband and from south of Xanadu to Xanadu's silver mine. We then broke into the silver mine, and killed one of the perpetrators, who had a keyring with three keys: one of which said "Xanadu mine". I wanted to see if these people were part of Xanadu.

We still distrusted Xanadu since we last raided them, with all the bitter back and forth, and having never come to any formal peace agreement. As mentioned earlier, peace terms were offered, but none were agreed to. We also had heard that Sabinati had left Xanadu, so there was nobody I knew from Xanadu to contact. We didn't know anyone had been kicked out, or really anything about what was going on within Xanadu. That said, I can say now that what happened was a huge mistake, and I bear a large part of the responsibility.

Though after the fact I realized what a tenuous connection the keys were (the murderers could have kept the keys secret from Xanadu), I have just tried to open the Xanadu gates using those keys, and they do not work. The problem is that when I tried Xanadu's gate, I had keyrings taken from the previous raid. This was a mistake, and I shouldn't have had those on me. I had mistakenly assumed that the gates had been replaced, since I saw rams next to them shortly after the first raid.

The bottom line is this: we should not have raided you, and I apologize for this.

This because you could only assume that every single person in the village was being simultaneously macroed by the same murderer and the moment you announced your presence or tried to contact him he would turn his deadly army of farmers on you. Onionfighter, are a credit to internet videogame policemen , and I just wanted you to know I've learned from your example. The next time I am in pursuit of a criminal I will break into any settlement that looks suspicious, kill anyone I choose, and steal whatever comes loose.

This is actually standard practice and, according to what I've heard many of the folks who actually played World 2, the only real way you're going to be able to deal with black-hats. Scorched earth tactics are applied because if you leave their infrastructure intact, they'll just recover from death and come right back at you. The newbies die along with them, and general consensus seems to be that's what they get for shacking up with murderers and thieves. Not saying if that's right or that's wrong, but that's the way it is. (As far as I know. Someone will probably disagree with me.)

All this said, Onionfighter really screwed up here and probably acting far too swiftly on circumstantial evidence. The whole thing is pretty much a tragedy, and it's extremely unfortunate it came to this.

EDIT:

I want to make it clear here that it likely seemed to be a second (third?) offense and that the time for calling people out had long since passed. That new/innocent folks got caught up in it is, as mentioned, unfortunate.

Can we atleast get some kind of guarantee from bottleneck that you will leave xanadu alone from now on? We have moved on to a new location, and are slowly starting to form a village again.

I would like some kind of word from the bottleneck leaders that you won't simply attack us again once you find us, as you know as well as we do that we do not have any means to defend against 4 people who have macroed since the map started.

All we want to rebuild and get more players into the game, this is not going to work if we get raided every other week. If you have an issue with one of our members take it up with us before storming our gates, it may very well have been a misunderstanding and hopefully we can sort these things out the diplomatic way.

I think what this thread really needs is some under-experienced and over opinionated players to start mouthing off.

I mean, seriously, 6 pages and no spazzing out and image macros? Whatever happened to tradition?

No one uses tradition. The LP gains suck. The only real advantage is Nuemen, but those are a bitch to get anyways.

It was stated that OnionFight did goof up this raid and apologized for the attack. Albeit this does not bring back the lost stats or LP, nor undo the structural damage but at least there can be an understanding reach, if shaky, from this admittance of fault.

Got to tip my hat to the Xanadudes.

They survived several incursions, before any walls. They survived a spy, Studmanbro, that trashed the Village twice before being killed. They said "Never give up" when the brownout caused data corruption and the Village was trashed because of it, before a rollback or whatever. Though it seems like most said "screw it lets get the hell outta here" when this second raid occurred.

As if an extra super-grid or two or whatever really matters (how far is too far, right???) to an outfit that has members wanting to be World Police.

A question(s) :

Did Gangland ( correct name? ) have any part in this ? Rumor is Yes.

Bottleneck asked for the heads of the Xanadu black-hats at fault for murder before the first raid. Being in the right to do so, they sought justice when Xanadu refused or didn't reply to offers of reparation.

Xanadu claims there were many murdered members of Xanadu, the Village was robbed of anything of value and then razed.

What becomes of this new situation since Bottleneck screwed up?
