An almost epic takeover

Postby burgingham » Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:59 pm

About a week ago I started playing with some old friends from world 1 and 2. I made a new character for that, but also help out with my main, who is usually living in Sodom, from time to time. Today was one of those times, as I was roaming the south border of the hearthlands to finally find that damn mine we have been searching for several days now.

It looked like another day with countless "no minerals found" and no variety whatsoever. But oh, I was wrong! Suddenly I discovered quite a broad road and decided to follow it, leading me into the center of a halfbuilt town. Some fields, some houses and best of all smelter and finery forges. I took a closer look at the mining area and something struck me as odd.
Right, a village idol or claim was nowhere to be seen. Just a personal claim over the mining area and a construction sign next to it. Guess it was my lucky day, because the sign turned out to be a nearly finished idol. Just 4 antlers still missing.

I had a quick chat with one of my mates and we didn't even have to think about what to do next. I was already on my way to the woods, found 4 antlers and finished the idol. Hostile takeover ftw! Just as I was about to light the idol some guy with a miners helmet popped up in front of my nose. I would have paid quite some bucks to see that guys face irl when he saw me lighting the very same idol he planned to finish just now. Not too surprising his first reaction: "WTF?" Me and my mate who had arrived meanwhile laughed a little at him and then drove him out of town as he tried to grab "our" steel.

Not even 5 minutes later a message from juhubert arrived. He asking me if I had something to do with taking over some innocent mining town. Unfortunately it turned out that the owners of the town are quite special trading partners of Sodom and they wanted Sodom to help them get their town back. Well the decision was not easy, because it is damn hard to find a mine these days, but after all I had no desire to be kicked out or something by my own town. So we renounced the membership at "our" mine and left it to the natives.

Still searching for that god damn mine, but at least had some very exciting experiences and I bet the mine owners did too. My apologies to you guys again, had I known who I was dealing with I wouldn't have taken over the mine in the first place.

Tl;dr: - took over a mining settlement by building an idol there
- turned out it belonged to friends of Sodom
- gave back the town to its owners
- ???
- no profit

You should've stayed and fought Sodom. For bonus points, multiclient and fight your own character with your other character while quoting lines from Me, Myself and Irene.

 Burg, I recognised the place from your description. I was at the very same place less than 24hrs ago while exploring. They had some cabins in unclaimed area and I saw they were struggling a bit with resource quality, so I killed a couple animals and put some hides on drying racks for them on the road - you must have passed them on your way into their settlement.

It's called intent.

Intent to take something that you know is not yours.

Isn't that something Sodomites despise and kill people for doing?

They were neither allies, nor real or suppositive opponents (or what is the right term for an opponent one uses in simulations and trainings). With that, it was a bad joke, and, futhermore, i dont think it is quite ethically right to post such a story here.
Well, even if i am not the one to sclod you, you sodomities got my vodka-drinking point of view =) And, yes, thanks for the story =)
