Why?

Postby xweetok59 » Sat Aug 28, 2010 3:12 pm

Why does everyone actually do like this game is real Live? When they declare war in this game, they do like they are declaring war IRL. They are holding speeches for a game...

For a lot of reasons I imagen. Some people hope to intimadate their opponent into backing down. Others want to feel justified in what they are about to do. Even more are in order to inspire their own villages. It only makes sence for a game that is made up completly of people and not NPC's that the comunication and and social network would be far more organic and built around what works in RL.

This game works like RL. People put a lot of time and effort into their avatars and because death actually means something in this game it is no suprise that people will go to great lengths to avoid being killed. A good speech might save lives. A great speech will stop a war.

that's it in a nutshell

we like seing the pain and grief that OP's put in thier posts when they get raided/raped, especially when they didnt take precautions in the first place. but most of us like seeing, even more, when the gankers get ganked(kinda like justice prevails and stuff)

In most MMO's roleplay is difficult to muster because in the end the only thing you lose is pride when you get your ass kicked in "PvP." H&H is unique because it makes the most vulnerable and puts the most at stake for participation in PvP and doesn't make participation an option, only allowing a player options in how they participate.

This emphasizes the impact of every PvP scenario because stakes are always higher than any other game even when you're a noob and there is no way to opt out. So roleplaying not only comes natural to these scenarios but the dramatic encounters generate real feelings in the player on behalf of their character because of the investments at stake. That said, this high stakes warfare that becomes conducted by a groups of people because the nature of the game generates a significant level of reward advantage to teamwork and cooperation.

So the roleplay that develops ends up looking a lot like a sexless fuedal era saga.

With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel

Maybe because people think that it adds more to the game. They have more fun with things like declaring war. I don't see how it's a big enough deal for it's own topic.

I think it's made of bubbles and hate.
