Major trade route interest.

Postby Chakravanti » Sat Oct 09, 2010 6:01 pm

What's the interest in paving a major trade route? If we can figure out the population densities with some voluntary submissions we could plot an effective Major highway that people could link to. With wagons and rafts It's actually a Viable project. I think it's more about Linking Riverways than paving a whole lot...or even at all. I think it's just a matter of organizing milestones. If there's paranoia (which is reasonable) we could encrypt the inscriptions and keep the player submissions private.

Who wants to walk when there's crossroads? Basically the only use for this is making it easier to find Constantinople, and you don't need a full-on road for that - a bunch of paved arrows pointing in the right direction would do.

I actually like the idea because I think that a major cooperative building project would curb a lot of boredom, if not for a short time.

Sorry but just had a funny thought. I wouldn't do it.

Which arrows would someone know to follow?

*H&H Landscape littered with arrows in the wrong direction, or pointing in all 4 directions just for shits and giggles*

this is a cool idea but we need to get rid of teleportation, and get easier roads and bridges!

I think teleporting will be gone next map.

Up at Port Eryie me and a friend build a road 2 wide about 2/3rd's of a supergrid to 1 supergrid long (not sure exactly) just for fun. This project took about a week of spare time and alot of hard work, (great road for wagon rides and hunting). It can be done for highly concentrated area's of people, but it would certainly take way too long to make them much farther than a Supergrid. Looking at this map http://havenmap.student.utwente.nl/Preview/ it is possible, that is if your able to find people wanting to do it just for fun cause it really serves no purpose for world 3.

Also notice, in the center of the map running past Nople it is possible to make a road from north to south because there are no rivers in the way. (except for the unknown area farthest north and south) now that would be a project and a half and would cure your boredom.

You keep saying this but i don't know why. They're not even working on mapgen which *should* be the project before the next reset (but who knows...maybe they'll do horses instead just for shits and giggles).

Mapgen will have to come so that tweaks to the travel system can be made to prepare for the removal of teleportation. I would think they reset the server after they are happy with a mapgen and as people settle into the new systems (LP replacement, terrain distributions, etc.) and just have the expectation of travel being removed at some point with a fair bit of warning seems the most reasonable way to do it imho.

If it's to harsh they can slap it back in and we can brainstorm a fix.

But back on topic I don't think this is going to be very labor intensive. Mostly just dragging a wagon around with a few supplies and lots of rocks for milestones. There's a fairly large map floating around and if people can identify their own location relative to the known world even if not publicly then this project could be underway.

For the most part it's just a matter of connecting with your neighbor and finding the most ideal travel routes and setting up milestones at the appropriate locations.

You didn't hear yet, if you can tame two cows at the same time you get a horse spawn tamed and in your name at that location. They are twice as fast as run mode.

Constantinople being in the center of H&H is the prime location for building a super North South highway from one end of H&H to the other. This way if anyone needs directions you just say go the the center hit the road, go north or south and you'll be at Nople.

I have my supergrid almost done. now some others may volunteer :D

The trade route on this map seems like
it would be fun and cool, though it would
leave traders open to bandits which i'm
sure they'll love. That and it's alot of work
when traveling is so simple, a serious of
warp towns with signs to eachother would
most likely work better.

If you're bored just hold a series of war
games, KO only, take all their loot when
they're down and when they stand up they
have to warp home or something. If you
don't want to lose your nice things, KO them
first or don't bring them.
