Some advice, please, fellow hearthlings

Postby Jubal » Fri Jun 11, 2010 12:40 pm

Right, myself and a couple of other people recently started playing H&H. We've all come from the same webforum and know each other pretty well; we have a little camp with some huts and tanning vats and so on, which is going pretty well. No farming yet, that kinda level.

More recently, we met our nearest neighbour to the south. He's a really high-level guy who has a village and lots of claimed land there, though the village is only populated by his three accounts (all of whom are really much higher level than any of us). He seems pretty friendly and has donated us some boar hides and meat (and he knows my HS). However, he's recently asked us if we want to join his village, on slightly odd terms. He seems to want us to be village members but without actually having a participatory "village" to any real extent i.e. we carry on living at our camp and don't do any village things. And he doesn't want us using his teleportery kit when we get high-level enough to do so.

So we're not really sure what to do. On the one hand he's muuuuch higher level than us and tbh we can benefit even by using scraps of stuff he doesn't need. On the other, we're not sure about becoming members of a practically defunct "village" rather than building up and getting our own which we can then have proper control of ourselves rather than letting a guy who clearly doesn't need us or need to hear our opinions much do the deciding on anything. For that matter we're not wholly sure why he wants 3 noobs in his village when he's not even requiring us to do anything. Oh, and since he can kill bears and I can't deal with a fox we're not too sure abotu doing anything that might annoy him either. :P

So, fellow hearthlings, what would you advise?

Sounds to me like he wants you to help raise authority of his village (you do this by simply gaining LP). The deal could be beneficial to both parties, but you ought to explain that you intend to strike out on your own after a while (some people take it really badly when people leave their village).

Upkeeping village authority full is not an easy task for a solo player, believe me, especially if he has full-Tradition belief, that basically lowers his LP gain many times, comparing to full-Change.

So I think your neighbour wants your help with upkeeping his village authority, in exchange you get his support.
Quite a good deal actually, since you are still free to do whatever you like.

Authority uses base LP, ie tradition/change slider has no effect.

you better do what he says or he may decide to upkeep his authority from the LP that your lives provide
