Announcing the formation of the Holy Roman Empire

Postby Griegor » Sat Jun 26, 2010 6:45 pm

Hello fellow Hearthlings,
I have decided on the creation of a political entity in the central Super Grids called The Holy Roman Empire. This Empire consist of the provinces of Deephold and Rome with the independent but allied Province of New Brodgar near our borders. The point of this empire is to add stability and a sense of identity to people in the Rome Supergrid. What is the Rome supergrid? Quite frankly it's the Supergrid adjacent to but east of Sodom.

The Empire aims to establish trade, stability, and peace within it's borders. We will be working on a system for investigating and punishing crimes committed within our super grid. We will encourage other villages to establish provinces in the empire or to simply declare themselves members of an existing province so they do not need to worry about politics so much. We will also maintain friendship treaties with other existing villages.

We do not plan to force other villages to join us. We will only expand by inducting members in the empire by peaceful negotiation as they desire. If anyone ever claims to represent us and threatens you, it is fake and do not believe it. If the word does not come from one of our Elector Counts, it is also not the official word.

We plan to start trade within our borders by establishing a common currency. This currency will be a mix of metal coins and eventually we will place this information on our website as well.

Further information is ongoing as well continue to develope and improve our political system and our Empire. If you would like more information you may visit our website.

You could but they would just elect a new one. Thats the problem with not having a hereditary system. There are always new people to take over.

We use q10+ bronze coins as currency at our market (Buyan).
If you could try adopt that as currency too, that would be a step towards global currency.

For us it works well; all stuff at market stalls is sold for q10+ bronze currency. There is a stall selling cast iron, and better quality bronze, thus acting as a metal exchange. Our exhange rates are cast:bronze = 1:1

We have an outward connection to Constantinople, linking our local market to the global market. You could ask Juhubert for a CR to Constantinople, and do the same for your market.
Last I heard, Constantinople plans on putting up a market square with stalls too. If they set their currency to q10+ bronze as well, there could develop a lively trade between our markets.

Tip: use a charterstone, at your market, to grant market access to hermits:
First, let them come to the stone by normal means of travel.
Then, let them aggro you (or, if they don't have rage, aggro them)
Next, swear them into village (the aggro is, so that no clowns can suddenly log off / fast travel away and become a permanent unwanted village member)
Then, have them rightclick the charterstone, and choose 'adopt' from it's menu.
Finally, exile them from village, and drop aggro.
This way, they will gain fast-travel acces to your market, without needing a village / crossroads.

Good luck with establishing your Empire.

We should talk more about this. I don't think I can even make bronze that low.. but I will try. We might need to talk a bit about your exchange rate though. I was thinking of basing my currency off the current trade value of certain goods. For example, 100 coins is a bar. 3 cast iron is worth one chest of cave bulbs. Thats 300 to 36. Therefore one cave bulb would be worth 8 iron coins each roughly. Somthing along those lines. WE should speak about this further and perhaps get an X roads up. I'm definately up for a common exchange rate or at least a controlled one between us.

Hehe. We can't make as low as q10 bronze anymore either. But q10+ priced stalls will accept higher quality too ofcourse.. Some of our trade contacts do still make low-quality bronze, so the q10+ thing is mainly to be nice to newer players joining our market.
At my metal exchange, I trade all bronze below q55 as 'q10+' (tool/coin quality). Bronze above q55 increases in price, as it's quality increases further.

Know anyone good at economics and spreadsheets? I think what this will require is some kind of integrated spreadsheet for all the items in Haven and Hearth and the current exchange rates. Either google docs share or somthing on my website that we can keep updated. If we do it right it could make trade much simpler for people when it comes to using actual stalls.

We kinda let the market itself set it's prices.
We had some basic barter rates for common stuff, like cavebulbs and chantarelles before, but right now, we just let people decide what to ask for their goods.
So far that works well.
Only thing we have set standard rates for, are metals, but those are usually bartered for, and not traded at market.
steel:wrought:cast:bronze:copper:tin = 1:4:16:16:16:16
gold nugget:silver nugget:steel bar = 1:3:3
