No seriously, check harder. You have to activate swimming, go into the water, then right click the water to go under.
Then look around for a cave.

because he's a shitty retarded troll. i really wish there were less of those here, this forum has become a real crap fest lately.

anyways, mines are found generally on mountains, mudflats, and in caves. i've seen a mine once in forest tile, and heard of one on a grassland field once. this game world hasn't been reset since february, so the majority of mines have been found. you might find something in a cave, or a remote outer grid, but at this point in order to have access to a mine, your best bet is to join a village that has one.

My friend and I just recently found an iron mine in a cave. Prospecting only detects them when you are in the cave, so there is an increased chance they have not been found yet. I think almost all the overground ones must have been found already.

It was in one of the outer super grids so we did have to travel quite a long way to find it, if you are playing with a friend, best to mix up a big batch of rustroot and aim for one of the unmapped areas on Mqrius' map and make an adventure out of it: http://havenmap.student.utwente.nl/Preview
