Regardless of his position, it was a question that should be asked and answered. Furthermore, it doesn't matter what how you think it's usually used, plural means multiple and humans have a single brain. If you were addressing everyone that reads this topic, it's perfectly correct, but incredibly rude and unnecessary. If it was just that one guy, it's wrong, rude and unnecessary. Take your pick.
