Problem with reducing base dmg is that it makes it completely useless for its actually intended purpose, namely as a newb hunting weapon. I have an actual fix in mind, but it's more involved.

I don't know how thinking increasing map size will fix the mine shortage problem at all anyways.

If you put down the construction sign on a mine, it cant be detected by rustroot extract, and the new grids don't have maps yet. if you go out there, NOW then you will almost certainly get one unless you are a lazy shit, unlucky, or miss it by a little bit. srsly man, play the game for more than a few days before you start making judgments.
