Do any of these "Rangers" have the ranging skill yet?
Edit: Ok, I realize I am being condescending. My impression is that you guys are still pretty new to the game but are either out to do some good, or to troll. If you guys eventually do become a major force in the hearth, it will have been a very difficult process. My advice is to form a village and focus, at least in part, on village stuff first. What is great about this game is that every real military force needs to be supported by farmers, cheese makers, cooks, miners, etc. If that isn't a part of your HHR, then you guys are not really in the game. If you try to just do ranging without infrastructure, you are going to be at a major disadvantage, and many enemies you might meet will be able to kill you. (They will have superior equipment and stats.)
It is also important to have a village so you can form relationships with your neighbors. How are you going to know if the guy you are tracking is a cold blooded murderer, or just another ranger punishing thieves/bandits? Scents will not tell you this, so you need to know the person who comes to you with a request to do some ranging. Even though scents do not lie, they only tell part of the story, and it is possible to frame someone.
Anyway, this advice is based on my assumptions about your group, so it might not be applicable. Your real test will be whether or not you have faded into obscurity within a week or two.
