More words from loftar. No breaking news or anything though. Imminent Salem update, random stuff about Haven & Hearth. Excerpts below:

#haven2 wrote:(15:56:45) <loftar> I sure hope so, Urist. I think the changes improve the game a lot.
(15:57:14) <loftar> Not only in the current state of the game, either, but they also make it more meaningful to add new stuff in the future.
(15:57:42) <loftar> I think one of the primary reasons why it was starting to feel meaningless to add new stuff to Salem was because the previous systems made new content kind of meaningless.
(15:57:50) <loftar> Especially the gobbling system, which is now fixed.
(16:00:47) <Urist> does it mean update is coming very soon?
(16:01:04) <loftar> They aren't necessarily connected, but I sure hope we'll be able to release the update soon enough. :)
(16:01:17) <loftar> I'm still aiming for the end of the month, but we'll see.
(16:01:22) <loftar> There are a few loose ends.
-
(16:13:48) <loftar> We don't *plan* to make a new Haven world before Hafen, for sure.
-
(17:11:31) <loftar> I wouldn't mind dragons and I know Jorb wants them, but it would be completely meaningless to add them as "just another creature".
(17:11:40) <loftar> I'd hate to see people "grinding dragons".

Why kill the dragon? Teach it to gamble. Then cheat it out of treasure.

A dragon that flies around burning down settlements and killing dhelmers would be cool, being able to kill a dragon would require some kind of equipment that will block the dragon's fire from roasting you, and you'd have to be one tough dude or hunt it in a group.

Maybe make a C and I thread with your ideas for its powers and abilities.

From what loftar said I don't think dragons will be added anytime soon anyways. For now it's just wishful thinking.

The statue has tiny wings and is much fatter. I don't think it could fly, note the flexing wings. jorbs drawing looks like it can fly. That's a big difference. Also you didn't really adress what the distinction is.
edit- The more I read I see it as an evolution of the serpent mythology present in the Bible and most likely before. Perhaps early society's evolved more similarly by contact than previously thought.
Also
Lindworms, monstrous serpents of Germanic myth and lore, often interchangeable with dragons;

and
In many descriptions, the lindworm is wingless, with a poisonous bite, like a poisonous snake or Komodo dragon.

The statue could be one.
For a C and I
The shed skin of a lindworm was believed to greatly increase a person's knowledge about nature and medicine.

Maybe well get both dragons and serpents.

A dumb/fun idea for the dragons. Something that came to me while considering whether or not this game is in a fantasy, or reality setting.

If in a more realistic setting, have dragons only visible to (and spawn near) hearthlings who have knocked themselves out with overindulgence with a certain % spawn chance (lower than golden eggs). Wanton destruction, appearing (to all but the individual who spawned it) as fire's being created out of thin air, and buildings/objects being destroyed without cause.

Only the individual who spawned it has the ability to interact with and kill the dragon, and if left alone for long enough will run away and despawn itself. If killed, again, only the spawner can interact with the corpse to butcher it, and craft with the remains. To everyone else, its corpse and products would appear as 1q animal parts they can not interact with, and things created would look awesome to the drunk (and have stats to match), but to all others it would look like your wearing random pieces of cow worn as armor.

The ultimate result of a bender gone strange. To the drunk, it would be an epic battle potentially culminating in having the best gear possible. To everyone else, it would simply look like a drunk went way overboard that night and destroyed half the town, only to end up wearing a dead cow and left wondering... Why Jimmy? Why the cows?!

That was fun to write.

I'm not sure a drunk dragonslayer is a good idea. In lore the hero is never drunk. Think st. George and the hobbit. However I could see it spawning for riches. Maybe it would come in and steal the pearls, gold and silver. I do like your idea of a 1 on 1 fight though. Maybe the dragon will have a lair with all the stuff it has stolen. Also maybe have only 1 dragon in the world at a time. When the old one is killed a new baby dragon is made. loftar doesn't want people to grind them and I think they should have names. If you were able to take a dragons skull and wear it with its name it would tie the slayed and the slayed together. Also perhaps limit to 1 slaying a lifetime. It should be an epic struggle that has killed the last 5 attempters. just my 2 cents
