I'm pretty adamant with this statement. People need to learn they need to crawl before they walk, and walk before they run. Start a camp. fence it off. Hunt what you can. Even if it's small like rabbits. Gather everything you find. Use it. You would be amazed as to just how many uses those taproots and stinging nettle have. In time you will be able to hunt harder stuff. Build a Palisade. Continue to hunt your way to boars. Keep getting leather. Sew it. Live the game. I don't think I can be any clearer. You will only get bored and lose appreciation for your character if you grind mindlessly on buckets.

PLAY THE GAME.

I think a large part of the problem is that people get more attached to their work if it actually amounts to something. They feel if they gain LP by paving a plot, building a house, erecting a wall around it, and making a temporary base, that all of their work is "gone" if they have to leave. They don't seem to realize that they gained a lot of LP doing it, and it didn't require they bore themselves asleep grinding buckets or breadbaskets.

Everything in the game awards LP, and it seems Jorb and Loftar try to balance it so that most activities are of similar effectiveness (modified by difficulty, of course). So just set a goal, decide you want to do something, and go do it. So long as you keep yourself busy, you'll be consistently earning new skills and abilities.
