Mining in Caves?

I heard about the update to mining so I thought I'd get an alt in one to try it. Well I try to mine multiple walls. There is nothing happening, not even a "what are you trying to do here?" I'm confused

Mining by an entrance does that. Honestly, search before you post, there's like 50k posts like this already. :roll:
