Magical vanishing rustroot detectors.

Ok, so this is kind of annoying. I FINALLY get a dowsing rod thingy pointing at a wall in my cave, but it was rather skinny and it pointed to a dead end. I guess that means its deep in the black. However, I can't seem to get any rustroot to show it again. I just keep getting the "no minerals found" error. Has this happened to anyone else?

PS. so far all else I seem to be getting are underground copper. Seriously there were three different nodes of it in one cave. I may even have to make a hole to it for support beams to get that possible sliver from earlier. Should I even try? Or is it likely a wild goose chase.
