Maybe it's just luck... but I've been mauled... god like 15 times since starting a week ago. I like exploring. I've yet to die on the first attack; I play dead until they wander off screen then get up and port home.

Am I incredibly lucky? Or do people not know to play dead?

I've been lucky as well.

I've been knocked out by a boar about 9 times, mauled by a bear once and I'm still alive.

I have killed five bears... from a boat. BUT, I did watch as a bear ripped my friend to shreds, then stand in front of me drooling while I punched it to death.

I'm curious as to what the chances are, but I can vouch now that the animals will randomly decide to kill you. My friend's first KO by a auroch he was attacking killed him. So ... yeah, I've been lucky as hell.

ok i found a bear and it knocked me down two times and then i just ran into the water so i was pretty lucky

There is no playing dead..when an animal knocks you down theres a chance it will either ignore you or continue to attack you. The chance with bears is MUCH higher than with boars, it used to be higher but i think the devs decreased the chance for the animals to gore you after KO.
