This is incredibly serious. I was sailing around a river and happened upon a claim that expanded foreeeeeeeeeeeever. Went to a tile right outside the claim and dug in the shallows, just to check. Clayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. :x

To OP, wall off the cave so that it has a double gate to get in. Put a runestone out front telling the claim owner that he can have a copy of the key if he declaims it. If he doesn't, get trespassing and mine away, safe in the knowledge he can never use it. If he does, give him a copy of one of the gate keys and just keep the other permanently open unless he decides to try and claim again.

You might want to put a claim on your gates.
