What are fast growing trees?

Postby killette2 » Mon Jul 18, 2011 7:12 pm

I don't really care much what they produce, only that they grow fast. I would like to know which is the fastest 1 log tree, the fastest 2 log tree, and the fastest 3 log tree and which is worth growing the most.

First, you must match the tree type to the terrain. Willows in hardwoods and pine trees in, well, Pine wood forests.
Not sure about the 3 log ones as they are just too slow for me to bother with.
(edit) my bad
learned something though :|

Fir is the fastest on conifer forest lands. I forget if it's Birch or Elm on deciduous forest land. Elm has the advantage of providing boughs (not much use for them beyond beds or buildings) and birch for the bark (bark boats).) Pine and maple both grow relatively as fast (considering you get 3 logs out of them.) However, for the number of branches, pine just isn't worth it.

Do they grow at 2/3 the speed of the 3-log trees? Fir (for conifer) should be the best for improving quality faster, yes? The wiki is sorely lacking growth rate info for trees.

Fir and Birch are the best trees for improving quality fast. Apple/Mulberry/etc seem to grow at the same speed of Birch but only provide one log. Birch is the best tree all around for growing and raising quality for various reasons, the most important being it's mix of speed and the amount of seeds you get per tree.

Not sure what speed Pine grow at, but it's very slow. Slow enough where most people won't even bother with it at all. Same with Willow and Oak, just terribly slow.

i think oak and pine grow at the same speed, but just different native terrains. (oak=broad leaf tile, pine=coniferous tile)
i thought willow wasnt too bad when you got no forest tiles around to plant on. but you should find certain forest tiles anyways if you are growing trees.

all in all, fir for coniferous, birch for broad leaf will be the fastest and best as everyone else says.

That's weird, I have more luck growing Willows than Elms / Birches. They seem to grow at the same speed, if willows don't grow faster for me, and they give 4 seeds. Or was it 5?

Anyway, currently my highest quality trees are willows

Are you growing them on their native terrains Procne or are you just growing them on whatever is conveniently there/on the same lot as eachother? Growing trees on the wrong terrain type will substantially increase how long they take to grow.

I'm growing them all on broadleaf forest terrain.
Willows seem to need 2-3 days to reach second-to-final phase of growth. Some reach the last phase next day, some need much more (probably because I tend to walk nearby from time to time). Birches and Elms seem to take just as much time.

Anyway, I planted some new trees (willows, elms, mulberry) sunday evening (european time). Will see how they grow.

Has absolutely nothing to do with it. The only thing that will slow growth is being on non-native terrain.
