Well, we know what it does for other recipes: halves the water quality and cauldron quality doesn't matter. That's why I question the formula above. It could be why it was changed, too, to bring it more along the lines of the functionality of everything else.

Does bring up an interesting thought on the quality of a cutthroat cuirass if the formula is as simple as a weighted average for the wax and leather and then averaged with the water. We could see a q490 (7x multiplier) if the world were to run long enough even with only q10 water. That would be significantly better than a q90 plate armor: better AC plus bonuses to stats instead of agi penalties. That's a hellish amount of wax, though

even now ctcs are getting very close to viable with metal armor. Steel armor will eclipse it briefly in the next 3-4 weeks, after that ctcs will be the best armor available to top end factions.

As for the cauldron: I'm certain it influences cooking of mussels, if so why wouldn't it be involved in hard leather?

Isolating for wax quality

Leather: q28
Cauldron: q23
Water: q33
Fuel: q10

not softcapped
80 sewing / 43 dex / 29 psy (softcapped at ~58, or 46 if psy is included)

Results:

q16 wax
actual quality: 23
OP formula: 22.25
wiki formula: 26

q27 wax
actual quality: 27
OP formula: 23.5
wiki formula: 30.1

q37 wax
actual quality: 31
OP formula: 24.5
wiki formula: 33.8

OP's formula was pretty close for the first test but seems to be undervaluing wax, my actual quality when up much more than OP's formula as wax q increased. Wiki formula is off for sure, but does a better job of weighing the wax.

Also, results for my own guess at the formula

q16 wax: 23.5 predicted (23 actual)
q27 wax: 27.6 predicted (27 actual)
q37 wax: 31.375 predicted (31 actual)

a couple other results, with q27 leather

24.875 predicted (24 actual)
31.625 predicted (31 actual)

If it always rounds down it's perfect, otherwise still pretty accurate. Anyone got some data for higher q ingredients, or a few results with same/similar wax but differing leather q? Need the cauldron quality in addition to the leather/wax/water.

not rounded, truncated(everything after the decimal just goes poof). what is your guess at the formula because you seem to have cracked it but didn't post... :x

Still refining it, and data samples for higher q ingredients (40+ preferred, especially a really high cauldron) would be pretty useful, even if it's just the result from one hardened leather. My newest isn't exact, but is the closest I've come with the data I have.

The breakdown:

40% wax (average)
40% leather (average)
10% water
10% cauldron

or

(4 * [wax + leather]) + water + cauldron
then divided by 10

My data with this using 33 water, 23 cauldron and not softcapped
Code: Select all
actual q    predicted q       wax avg     leather avg
19          19.6              19          16
22          22.8              19          24
25          24.8              19          29
23          23.2              16          28
27          27.6              27          28
31          31.6              37          28

Could easily break off and become completely unreliable at higher ingredient levels, which is why some more data would help. I need to try crappy water too, gonna do that later, because my water value could be off since I'm only fitting to changes in leather and wax. Cauldron would be hardest for me because I only have q23 metal right now, would prefer some results with a 40+ cauldron if anyone is up for it, so I can compare it to a q10 or my q23 cauldron.

Thanks.

Not quite exact, but a great deal closer than the wiki formula which predicts 82.75 for your input.

When we say "wiki formula," are we talking about the old formula that we know is no longer valid or the one that is proposed on the talk page of leather + wax * 3?
