Actually, I think both the home page of the wiki and the "getting started" page could use some love. The home page probably could just use a couple things rearranged and possibly highlighted a bit better. The only people that tend to use it are either new players that aren't sure what they're looking for and those familiar with the wiki and looking for a fast link they may not use on a regular basis or keep bookmarked in the browser.

Otherwsie, yes, it's the "Getting Started" page that I think could use a major revamp, and the primary purpose of this thread. I'd love to see some marked up images pointing things out, etc. Getting the images done shouldn't be too hard, and I've been looking for an excuse to log back in and play a little, anyway. ;)

LadyV, you're the type of person I really would like to get some input from on this, since you aren't one of the computer/programmer mindset. Hopefully we'll get some others poking their nose in here and making useful comments on edits.

mvqulik--yes, exactly why I started this here. I will be writing something up over the next couple of days on the discussion page and I'll post links here as I work on things. I'll probably keep a running log in the opening post as well as adding it as new replies so people can comment that don't want to set up an account. Hopefully we'll get some newer players (less than a few months) that can say what they'd have liked to see there. Will change the title of the OP, too, so it'll show up.

probably it would make sense to have a Getting Started Block at RoB Wiki Startpage i.e. some of which are in Quick Help Guides Block atm and Special Information Block

Collecting and adjusting things outside the 'home/start page' first. Might make it easier to see what makes sens to add or change to the 'home/start page'.

Main objective, in my view', for a main/homepage is to be concise and clean. With help guide links you probably also want to add some additional information about a specific guide (creator, date, subjects, etc). Which is better done on a separate main-guids page.

(Alternative: short guide-box on Homepage, with 2 or 3 best/most up to date guide links in it, and a "More ..." link to a main guide page.)

Mmm. Considering the Homepage is currently protected.

yep you set it to protected in September ;)

I wouldn't edit it anyways aslong the discussion and brainstorming is going on ... i don't want to add some additional information on start page - i just think about a reconfiguring the existing blocks and their contained links

I ended up doing all my "government paperwork" this weekend instead of focusing on this. At least the taxes are filed. (There's 3 hours of my life each year I can't get back. At least with digital filing it takes less than half the time it did with paper filing.)
