On RoB wiki it states that it is softcapped by Cooking and Perception, but it's a bit confusing. I have understood that sausages are softcapped by the highest value chosen between Perception and Cooking. Is my theory correct?

No, the average value. So lets say you have 100 Cooking, 50 Perception, and you're making a quality 200 sausage

(Cooking + Perception)/2 = 75
(100 + 50) = 75

(Sausage + Softcap)/2 = ~137 Rounded
(200 + 75)/2 = 137.5

Note that softcapping only applies if the quality of your product is higher than the softcap.

If your sausage was q10 and your cooking and perception were 100 and 50, the sausage would still only be q10.

The quality of the meat grinder also affects outcome.

It does but only for determining the sausage quality to begin with. If you're just figuring out how much cooking you need to not softcap the sausage then it's not part of the softcap formula.

Ok bear with me on this. My mind does not do math as well as it used it but I shall try.

First of all as per the RoB Wiki sausage is only softcapped by Cooking, not perception.

http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Sausage_Making

The base formula should be 3 x quality of item + Quality of tool / 4

So if we have maximum value boar meat it would be 3 x 56 for the first part. Lets say we were lucky and bought a q100 grinder. Our formula 3 x 56 + 100/4 which would give us a potential sausage value of 67.

If our cooking is above 67 we do not need to check as Teck stated. It will not go any higher.

If our cooking is lower than 67 then the formula is qskill + qitem /2.

So say we had 50 levels in cooking. Our formula would then be 50 + 67 /2. This would mean we can achieve quality 58 sausages.

I hope this clears up what I am saying. And shame on you for making me do math. :P

You misunderstand~
His question wasn't how to determine quality, but rather how to determine softcap. While the meat grinder affects the sausage quality, it does not matter when determining softcap. We skipped over that step and assumed we had a value. =)

10+ The more the better. Try to get it to 2x the quality of your tool. If you have a q20 sling for example, try to have 40 MM.

Please don't think me argumentative Teck but if we do not determine sausage potential quality then we don't have item quality to determine skill cap in the formula. So it is part of the softcap. Am I wrong?

Again - we used an imaginary sausage quality (200 quality) and softcapped it with our (Cooking+Perception)/2 value. Indeed, the meat grinder depends on the quality, but not when softcapping!
Hope this clarifies out some things :)

Teck, the bolded part is incorrect. If more than one stat softcaps a product, the stats combine with a geometric mean, not an arithmetic mean.

In the case of sausages, softcap = sqrt(cooking*perception)

Although meat grinders are worth mentioning and they do affect the quality of sausages, they are not directly related to Zachary09's softcap question. The cooking & perception softcap is applied separately after the meat grinder quality is taken into account. Meat grinders aren't considered a softcap because they are capable of raising or lowering the final product while softcaps by definition only lower quality.

In repairing a battering ram, how much glue do I need to repair it? Do I need to use the same amount as I used when I build the thing, or is one glue enough? Old inner palisade walls on my claim that needs to go.
