If you mean the stake itself, nothing. You can walk through the pole now.
If yiu mean the claimed area, he will be stuck unless he has trespassing to get back into the cave. He can also activate criminal activities without trespassing and leave the claim (if not walled), but he won't be able to enter the cave again without trespass.

They're stuck until they clip out of it. You can do that by attempting to move rapidly from an object. It helps if you're at run or sprint speed.

Nope, using either produces the same effect.

So aside from prospecting and building a mine hole to go down, the way to find ore is to randomly dig at the walls of caves one tile at a time? Is finding ore very difficult?

At first level shouldn't be much of a problem, specially if you already have a pickaxe.
If you are searching for a specific ore, then I strongly recommend prospecting.
