If I trap a deer, or any other animal, with unfinished fence, will it eventually die due to hunger?

I have 10 sticks in my inventory for making a wicker basket, but when I try to build it says, "The construction site has no available building materials" What does this mean and what should I do?

Left-click a stick, then left-click the stick in the little window that opens when you start building wicker basket.
It should say 10/0/0 at first. When you put one stick in it wil say 9/1/0. Repeat until it says 0/10/0, then click Build.

It will despawn if you go too far, but it disappears and you can't loot the body. Doubt it's due to hunger

Or simply shift + left click your materials with the building window opened.
Edit : OR put your mouse cursor on the building window and shift + wheel down.

I know cows can give birth outside walls. But what about a palisade AND a fence? Because our cow doesn't seem to be wanting to give birth. Or my biological clock is just bad.
