I believe structures still take decay hits if they're not on paved land even if they're claimed; it's just at a reduced rate. This may have changed at some point and I don't remember it -- I pave all land I plan to build on so it's not something I'd realize had changed if it did.

Last time I checked (long time ago), one moon phase took 3 HnH days (or one real day). And (yep) the moon phase changed at HnH noon/midday.

Nope.

Corpse decay is not the same mechanic as other decay types. They can decay while inside a boat for example, whereas all other decayable items can't.

I'd bet they could, but I've never tested it personally.

I recently sunk a minehole inside my compound as I wanted a chance of getting some metal (I'm a hermit). I knew that there was some metal not far south from me from prospecting. However, I have discovered that there is a large cave/mine network near my minehole, and that there isn't any metal near me without joining this network. Should I mine through and join the networks, or should I give up all hope of finding metal?

Join the network, and block the minehole from the top.

Do this by building a roundpole fence/palisade around the top, with an open gate for you to go down through.

Even when the gate is open, people cannot go up.

an example:

Ah, I should've said - I've already secured it completely with palisade. I get around through use of village idol porting (outside the mine) and HF (inside), with copious amounts of wine. I didn't want to risk any raiders... I'm also a bit confused about how you "get" metal from the mine. If you mine at the walls and there is metal there, does it just come out into your inventory? And is that the same for all metals (tin, copper, iron etc) or is it different?

You get ore when you're mining on a metal node, and you smelt it in an ore-smelter for the metal it is of.

When you mine a tile that has ore (iron tin copper silver gold), it will drop on the floor as an item drop. If there is no ores, then a stone is dropped.
