I don't think the soak damage of a hearth fire is 5, I tried with my farmer (13 str) drank a some wine to have 23 str, the square root of it is 4.something --> So he would deal like 4 damage. So i equiped a stone axe for that +1 damage. I still can't break my hearth fire...

4 is smaller than 5 so you dont do any damage. That is what soak means. You need to get more than 5 dmg (that is 6).

Soak 5 means it reduces 5 damage per hit. By doing 5 damage per hit, your damage is 0. You will never successfully break something when doing 0 damage.

Talk to the guy next to the water (right click) to change from orb to male or female.

Talk to the lady to set your name.

Open chest for basic starter items.

Talk to the guy at corner if you have a friend's hearth secret, if not go up ladder to spawn randomly in the wild.

i have built them cupboards in and the face the wrong way. Still work, just aesthetically displeasing. Also not a fan of picking them up because I can never get them to fit just right again. (Also I am aware that picking them up sometimes changes the way they face, i haven't figured out the key to that though.)

You can pick the cupboard up and hold shift and place it where you want it. Holding shift will center the object on the middle of the tile.
