make a mine?

i got the rust root and the skill to find mine but i dont know if u try and find 1 wat kind of land dose it need to be on and how do i know if there a mine near.

Iv never actually found a mine or prospected for that matter (Maybe it shows a spot where the mine is). But i know when you prospect it tells you the present of mine-able material if there is none it should tell you.I hear you can usually find mines in mountains and mud flats. Do you know where you are in the world?
