Ray's Therapy Thread

Postby jrdimpfl » Sun Jun 05, 2011 9:31 pm

Well, for those of you who don't know who I am or what I do, I am just a regular player like most of you, my job entitles me to work with reptiles and amphibians, as well as the venomous species. Two and a half years ago I sustained a bite from a large male Northern Copperhead (A.c.mokasen) while photographing this fella. The bite was on my dominant hand. I spent 18hrs in the local hospital along with them not knowing much about how to treat venomous snake bites, so I fought back the morphine to guide them through the procedures, but the chemicals were too much and I slipped into a coma. I woke the next morning to me in a different hospital, I could only assume they felt unsafe because of my allergic reaction towards the antivenom and shipped me another county away. I now suffer from whats called Ophiotoxaemia, or Ophiotoxaemic Oedema, which is basically lymphatic fluid buildup between and under muscle and nerve tissue, which causes me to be in moderate to severe chronic pain. I also lost the feeling as well as most of the movement in my right arm. It has been a struggle.

I have started this thread so that I can attempt physical therapy by trying to redo (I used to be a pretty decent pixel artist before the accident) pixel art, and H&H has given me this opportunity. So, I will ask for your criticism and critiques on some of my things! Thank you all for listening to my banter.

Beehive - I have not made the honey dripping yet, this was basically a test to see if I could even attempt pixel art again. Also, the bee's seem to hover around the top of this hive, so I either need to create more bee's or move the current ones down near the entrance.

Updated to a more natural color. Still working on the honey dribbling out, it's proving challenging as some of the frames arent where they should be... I also added a little color to the bees.

Fencing - Decided to go for more of a post-like fence, some may like it, some may not, this is still a work in progress!

Fencing and Cornerpost - After Daji was inspired by myself, I was inspired by him. So, this came to light, however, I personally dislike the cornerpost, trying to think of a way to get it to work.

Stone Axe - Ohhh maybe? this design is still in the works!

Village Member Icon - Not much of real graphics work, really just changed the village banner icon shown beside fellow village member names to a nice little head, I think it looks rather nice.

Good thing, very good, I don't know if I could do the same if something like that happen to me, my hope are with you
one thing I see on H&H it's the inventory items don't occur about an outline but the terrain items don't like it very much, to fit with the jorb style I mean
About your beehive, maybe a couple of legs on it? or change the color to "mix" it with the one of the wooden planks

ps : can I ask you show us some pixel-art before you arccident?

Thanks Daji, could you maybe explain a bit more about the color change? And yeah, the only issue I see with my own beehive is in-game... you can literally walk up on parts of it.

I've been looking for some of my older stuff, all I seem to find is some of the work I did a month or two after the accident.

Don't judge this stuff, it was literally a month after my accident...

Image - Old avatar for a forums I belonged to, this was a character I used to roleplay as sooooo many years ago.

Image - Just some little block pixel work I did for my own pleasure, shows a small butterfly feeding on a pink flower, along with a small brook and a smaller version of my character plopped down beside the brook...

I mean but color change to match with the brown of wooden boards ingame, since there isn't dye or painting

Those are pretty, don't worry I don't judge anyone on "skill" or anything,

Added a more natural look to the beehive, but the honey dribbling is a pain, for some reason, beehived.res_11.png is jumping to the right one pixel, so I try and compensate by moving the graphic to the right one pixel... and doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me...

Quality stuff, even if it doesn't match the time period (it's mostly hay, not wood), but there's nowt wrong with your art.
