Can't believe we still have people (who have forum accounts that are like 5+ years old) that don't know how to start the game without getting fucked. It's incredibly easy to safely set up early on with just a small modicum of foresight. The people who get fucked over are
a) Noobs, and that's fine, it's a learning experience, if they quit because of this they were never going to stay anyway because if it weren't this that made them quit it would be whatever other mishap they're inevitably going to encounter.
b) People that simply do not learn from past mistakes.
Don't build near rivers, don't do any sort of terraforming until your claim is up, don't build near places people are often going to visit, like swamps, yes we know you want easy dragonflies but have some common sense and realize that swamps attract people and if you're too close they're probably going to come across where you're trying to set up. Don't build near anything that attracts attention. Contrary to how hard people make it sound to start; you don't need to do anything too elaborate to get a safe area set up. The cave thing is a good way to start but it's not necessary, I only recently started using it, usually I'd just go inland into the midst of forest, I wouldn't terraform at all, I'd throw down my claim and it'll always be fine and ready when I wake up. Of course, there's always the chance someone will stumble across it, but the chances are low and if it does happen and they do break it then you just adapt and move on, it isn't that deep. If you can't even manage to setup early on, then you were never keeping up with anybody of relevance anyway so getting put behind by 8 hours is annoying but ultimately irrelevant.
c) Touched on it before but people who get unlucky. Hasn't happened to me but I'm always prepared for if it does. If/when it does happen, I'll just move the fuck on to another location.
On another note, where the fuck is the next world? I swear these devs try their absolute best to try make me lose interest in this game altogether. I can't think of any other game in which I have to sit waiting for months just to be able to play again. If the next announcement is just another regular patch update with no info on the new server then I'm gonna do myself a favor and try to ween myself off of playing altogether because I seem to spend more time waiting for a new world to begin than I do actually playing and it just isn't worth it at this point. This is why I wouldn't mind a single player/locally hosted version of the game so I can wipe the game in a more controlled fashion. That or the mythical double server with the world that gets wiped on a regular shorter schedule which I don't even know if that shit is still happening at this point. I'm losing interest either way. Radio silence, dead forum, dead game. Zzz.
