Game Development: Grammophone Crane

Postby jorb » Wed Jan 14, 2026 11:28 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Crane", a water/swamp dwelling birb!
  • Added "Frost Flower", winter curiosity.
  • Made it so that armor can be repaired using another piece of (the same type of) armor. A piece of armor restores armor HP by conferring the amount of HP it has left to the piece being repaired, plus an additional amount (20%) based on its total HP, soft capped by the crafting ability values used by the crafting recipe for the armor type. The repaired armor will be proportionally quality adjusted. This means that broken armor pieces have at least some potential use as a few points of repair conferred to another piece. Do note that it, thus, is probably a bad idea to repair a mildly damaged high quality piece of armor using a destroyed piece of low quality armor.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Improved login handling such that it should be possible to log in to alternate servers even if the "main" server is down. Further, the initial server connected to is prioritized to the last used server, hopefully mitigating various connectivity issues.
  • Ensured that destroy actions are canceled if a building completes its soaking timer while being destroyed.
  • Going up mineholes now confers the visitor debuff where applicable.
  • Bandying with other players is now an invitation which must be accepted before the bandy window opens. The many reasons why we cannot have nice things, &c&c.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Swamps should now produce some, albeit lower, frequency of Dragon Flies during Spring.
  • "Peculiar Flotsam"s, and "Petrified Seashell"s should now stack.
  • "Cave Louse Leg"s now count as "Bone Material" for all purposes (e.g. crafting, repairing, stacking, stockpiling).
  • "Precious Snowflake", "Rabbit Frost" and "Whirling Snowflake" all count as "Snow", can be used as that for purposes of crafting and repair, stack as snow, and can be stockpiled as snow. They do, however, not melt.
  • Player Characters should now attempt to face fires when crafting over them. The vicious exploit party of (appearing to be) cooking meat over open stockpiles confirmed for over.
  • The "Falling Star" star experience is now only available to characters with "Hearth Magic", to prevent e.g. new players from seeing it when they ought not to, and such.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $7, is the "Grammophone Hat".

Store Description wrote:Image$7 Perpetually dancing to its own, old, ragtime tune at 78rpm.

All Gold subscribers have been awarded the "Grammophone Hat", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------

Enjoy!

I feel like 2 years after being reported it's just a feature

Do toads spawn in spring yet? Always seemed dumb that you had to wait for summer to catch them.
