Game Development: Narwhal Study

Postby jorb » Fri Jan 23, 2026 12:07 am

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Narwhal", fun-loving deep ocean dwelling whale, often found in pods, and often equipped with a mighty tusk!
  • Added "Fine Study Desk", a more spacious study desk!
  • Added "Sackcloth Cloak", a piece of clothing.
  • Added "Ashen Faced". You can now hold at least 0.25kg of Ashes, and right-click a player (yourself or someone else) to paint them with ashes. The (de)buff can be removed by going for a swim (will fix so soap can be used, but reasons).
  • Added "Chitterlings", offal food made from boiled intestines.
  • Added a new input type "Frutti di Mare". Fruits of the Sea include Edible Seashells, such as Mussels and Clams, and Crustaceans such as Crabs, Lobsters, or Shrimp.
  • Added "Surf'n'Turf", food item made from "Meat" and "Frutti di Mare".
  • Added "Pelican Pouch Pocket", pocket made from a pelican's pouch.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Added variable material to "Crate"s, which now reflect the wood which made them. Love it!
  • PSA: As it can be used to create various traps and such, we intend to revert the recent change by which going up Mineholes gives the Visitor debuff where applicable. Consider this your fair warning.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Added object icons to "Rat's Chest", "Giant Cheese" and "Giant Spool", all from the Rat Dungeon, can now be placed in object stashes with a GUI e.g. Knarr/Wagon.
  • Redrew the buff frames around the various character buffs in 4x resolution.
  • Redrew icons for "Travel Weariness", "Oyster", and "Opened Oyster" in 4x resolution. Redrew the icon for "Realm Management" in 4x resolution, and also use a variant of that icon for the buff recieved upon entering a Realm.
  • Added a stockpile for "Oyster"s.
  • Improved error messages for (War Flag you're trying to place can't see Thingwall) and (Thingwall cannot currently be challenged). The latter now presents time until challenge, the former is more explicit about pointing out that it needs line of sight.
  • Crafting anything with "River Pearl Mussels" or "Oyster"s will now return any potential pearls found in the mollusks, meaning that it is now safe to cook with them without losing pearls by doing so. On account of this, the "Moules Frites" recipe now takes mussles, quite simply, rather than boiled mussels.
  • Added minor light source to "Hearth Fire"s.
  • Added a small animation/delay to cleaning out "Garden Pot"s. Suggested here.
  • Food items now display their applicable food categories in their tooltips. Suggested here.
  • You can now place curiosities on unclaimed Study Desks, allowing them to be used for display and/or storage.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $7, is the "Alpine Gnome's Cap".

Store Description wrote:Image$7This mountaineering cap echoes its YODELI-HI-HO triumphant from peak to shining peak!

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Alpine Gnome's Cap", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------

Enjoy!

Warning prompt instead, pl0x?
The idea that you can build a minehole next to an enemy village's minehole and freely grief their main mineshaft is pretty annoying, ngl.
It's one of the primary ways you can grief any village at will.

Would rather you fix edge case exploits than revert this.
