Game Development: Grand Pickle Brain

Postby jorb » Thu Feb 05, 2026 1:51 am

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Grand Study Desk", a massive Study Desk with an 11x11 inventory for curiosities, and five display points.
  • Added "Pearl Glue", and "Wet Pearl Glue". A concentrate glue made from, 10x "Bone Glue" + processing in the form of Coal, Lime, Lye, and Salt. Craft "Pearl Glue" by a cauldron to recieve "Wet Pearl Glue", and then dry that on a "Herbalist Table" for an ingame week to turn it into "Pearl Glue". Required for "Grand Study Desk".
  • Added "Pickling Crock", a free-standing larger crock for pickling, holds some combination of 36 items and 20l of "Pickling Brine". Thread here. Displays whatever is picklin' at the moment. Variable metal material on the lid.
  • Added "Smokering". Occasionally when puffing a pipe, you will blow a "Smokering". If you catch it in time, it is a curiosity, and a ring. Further occasionally you may instead blow a "Smokeship". Suggested/discussed here. There is, of course, a new Ship-in-a-Bottle variant for "Smokeship"s.
  • Added Brains. Most all animals can now yield a brain as the final step in the "Clean" butchery step, in four different sizes: Tiny, Small, Medium (simply called "Brain") and Large. Brains are curiosities, can be used as tanning material, and can, of course, be pickled.
  • Added "Fine Butchery", skill. "Fine Butchery" is required for butchering Brains and Bollocks, and unlocks the "Pearl Glue" recipe. Note that you can still castrate animals without the skill, but that you need it to get "Bollocks".
  • Added "Seedbag". Can hold crop seeds and tree seeds. Can be carried in a pouch slot, or in any inventory, quite simply. From Legacy, but more recently discussed here and here.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Made it, for fences/walls, so that you can extend/place additional corner posts from existing corner posts, if you so desire. Perhaps helpful when building tight turns and such.
  • Made it so that you can disable editing of surveys by a toggle in the interface.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • "Narwhal Tusk" can now be used as a spear. Suggested various places. Catch, coles!
  • Increased internal inventory of "Pickling Jar" from 3x3 to 3x5, and extended maximum fluid capacity to 4l. It should now be able to pickle a full inventory without going below the amount of "Pickling Brine" needed to pickle the final items in it. Added small icons for "Pickling Jar" variants (used in e.g. barter stands and such).
  • Redrew icons in 4x resolution: "Bone Glue", "Smoke & Fire"
  • Added Skill Requirements: "Granary" -> "Farming", "Cistern" -> "Stone Working", "Demijohn" -> "Glass Blowing"
  • Fixed a bug by which the "Poacher's Pouch" was unlocked by "Fishing". Moved to "Tanning".
  • "Mirkwood Log"s have a chance to dissolve in a flurry of insects and wood when chopped or put down. Pls no raeg, it's very aesthetic.
  • "Bough Pyre"s now rotate with the ground they are built on, and have greater tolerance for being built on steep slopes.
  • Made a unique tileset "Acre Clay Field", such that Acre Clay areas no longer have to use the same tileset as "Dirt".

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $7, is the "Faucet Hat".

Store Description wrote:Image$7 A constant, streaming, flowing, drip-drip-dripping keeps leaking no matter how you turn the knob!

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Faucet Hat", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------

Enjoy!

Opulent study desk next, requires fine wood polish and a special lathe at a windmill.
