Perhaps to be clear, there are two reasons I haven't done this until now:
  • For one thing, I just hadn't though of giving hat transfers a "grace period" like this until reading about the Steam Marketplace and seeing that that's apparently how they do it. Prior to that, I hadn't thought of a way to prevent forced hat transfers other than to turn off hat transfers altogether, which I suspect wouldn't have been too appreciated.
  • For another thing, my thinking had been that removing forced hat transfers would turn "hat or die" into just "die", and it wasn't necessarily obvious to me that you're better off from just not even having the option. What changed my mind was the realization that it's probably also the case that, with forced hat transfers, wearing a store hat probably also makes you far more likely to be targeted to begin with, and that's probably a situation we want to avoid as far as reasonably possible.

A step in the right direction. A tiny one though.

I can understand the hat or die perspective, until you actually think about it for more than a minute.
The argument has always been flawed, acting as if the wild asshole who attacks a literally worthless spurce cap HAS to do it, when in reality those people are going to murder hobo anyone anyway. They just managed to hold you changing this system hostage under the guise of "But for the new players it would be worse!" yeah, because those people are behaving in a way that does that, not because the change. The majority of people doing hat or die are randomly killing spruces anyway, they just enriched themselves by fooling you

We have now entered the new era of 'build your hf right here and give me a token or die'

Jokes aside, cool patch :)

Are hats at 0% gonna be detected by the Barter Stand red hand?

So traders need to wait for a day to confirm that payment with hat is completed?

Great question, curious as well. Seems really bad for honest trade imo.

Also the siege change is fucked, islands are very close to full vault now. Consider making the exclusion zone between water and palisade even further now.
