Would much rather see constructive input on the actual question than meta commentary.

I think it's pretty dumb that boats act as a force multiplier, allowing a single character to be exposed to 10+, which would not be possible in any other situation, and I think that should be fixed.

I think the real fix here is object controlled objects, and walkable boats, but that is some ways away. I am open to the idea of making the driver be the one, and only one, able to hit from a ship.

Bows sucking and whales being dumb aside, meleeing a whale, ever, makes zero sense. It can exist as a stopgap solution but it's going to have to go at some point.

You know there's a whole subforum for that? There's 11 pages of discussion about potential fixes there. Arguably the devs picked the wrong solution here, but some pretty major arguments brought up now weren't being brought up before this update.

It's not as massive of a difference as an additional 9 melee attackers, though; the way quantity of attackers works with the openings system means you you receive absolutely massive damage if they attack well (raise opening to insane level, then perform high-damage attack).

Unbashable objects are never obvious, agreeable changes. Under current mechanics, this would let you form an indestructible wall in the water by putting alts in dugouts and KOing them yourself. There are various possible ways to counter that, but all have their potential problems to consider. 'Just don't let boats with unconscious bodies be bashed' is the exact same kind of solution as 'just don't let people perform attacks while on ships'.

+1 to boat fix, my sad hermit got dunked on by a random pair of dudes and I lost nearly all my shit cause of this. Captain to Captain combat sounds like a good alternative. Maybe a "Raise a white flag" or "Parley" hearth magic? Bandy over x cargo and the captain is immune from hostilities for x amount of time and also unable to attack ect.

I would have gladly sent over my chests instead of having to listen to all my gear get dumped in a river...

Bows can still be used in boats and 10 people in a knar with bows is 100x's more OP than that bullshit Shubla was pulling. Shubla's tactic only really works on scrubs with no armor and yet the entire boat combat system needed to be kneecapped because of it?

4 people in a snekkja cant even be attacked without bows now so if you didn't bring one or if it doesnt do enough dmg I guess you can just give up?

Awful change to bandaid a high effort and niche problem

Really disappointed in how consistent and reliable these types of nerfs are. No forethought and a total willingness to add tedious extra steps while not actually fixing the problem


Theres this cool little thing in the game called a rowboat. You use 10 blocks, 25 boards, and some tar to make it, and it holds 3 people or 1 person and 2 liftables. Maybe give it a try?

Man up and jump out of the boat for the 10 seconds it takes to kill one or drop a rowboat, get in it, and kill the seal before the decay ticks break it.
