The market was dead, and in spite of similar prizes for the games basically nobody showed up. When 1500 people were online instead of 200 they couldn't get 1/10th the people in the door.

Oceans + road nerf killed CF. It's rly sad that everybody either hates or feels neutral about oceans, but they're still in the game instead of CF. There are so many examples of bloat making other far more enjoyable parts of the game obsolete or unworkable. Winter, whaling, pickling, pork, bollocks, new glass, conchs, skiis, sleighs, etc.

IDK why I'm ranting about this but it FUCKING SUCKS that some content that will be hype for 1 week manages to make the game permanently worse either for years or forever

It's real posts like this that makes me not dislike you at all despite all the bad blood you and WB had even though I was middle management in WB.

We're totally on the same page that we just want the game to be fun but yeah some things have unintended consequences that can't really be reversed when certain updates are here to stay.

I still like the idea of oceans but you're right they're largely pointless except IMO it requires people to invest into Will and have slightly worse combat stats if they wish to travel further quicker. It also stimulates the tobacco market for farmers.

I remember CF, it was fun while it lasted. But as with most things, people liked it cause it was new and fresh; the second time around was old news and stale. Also having people camping roadsigns just outside of it didn't help.

Oceans, winter, and so on might not be good content, but they are not the main issue driving a wedge between people. Unmotivated attacks is.
I remember walking around and chatting with strangers, not really worried about getting jumped and killed by someone way stronger than me even before KO protection. Most PvPers would just walk up, see I wasn't an interesting target, and move on.
Now? Now it's all about attacking everyone on sight. Setting up sentry bots. Chasing and trying to kill even the lowest of sprucecaps. Which lead to avoiding any stranger, up to the point of having custom clients that automatically teleport you to your hf as soon as an unidentified player appears on your map.

Why has this changed? I don't know. I'm not a PvP guy, so maybe you can tell me.
If I had to guess, I'd say cause there isn't enough fun PvP. Meteor is still the only interesting "PvP event". Siege has become so difficult that it's almost never done. And non-event PvP fights are just long chases that usually end up in nothing (or at least that's what most PvP videos show). So I guess PvPers are bored, and just go around killing newbies because of it.
Feel free to correct me.

So maybe finding a way to make PvP more engaging will turn PvPers away from aggro-on-sight tactics, allowing for a more communal haven experience for everyone.

I feel like you had 1 good experience in legacy, then one bad experience in modern, and you're drawing a lot of conclusions from that. People are ABSOLUTELY NOT more murder-y now than in the past. If anything people are nicer now than in W7.

Also there wasn't anybody camping roads to CF2, because there were no roads in W11.

Also people were not "sick of the novelty of CF" or whatever. CF events were still extremely active 2 years into W10.

People rly like to speculate random shit killed CF, but it was very, very, very, very, very obviously the fact people just couldn't get to it as a direct result of oceans and roads.

It's likely just a matter that there were so many more people that peaceful places had so many defenders they weren't worth sieging or attacking in the outskirts of.

I'm willing to bet it's true the ratio of aggressive people is about the same but since there's not as much in the way of aggressive people to deter their aggression, it allows them to be more open and daring.

Teleport rebalancing killed it, i believe. And dev's sayd it was intended, "we dont want ppl build global comunity, market's, etc, we like rednecs who live in their village and go out only to small local rednecs" something. Ppl ask them many times to return it to normal, but no, they simply dont like ppl play and enjoy game like that.
