Even if they did, they're probably just going to find insanely huge barren landscapes devoid of life. It only takes "walking 5-10 hours in one direction" and repeating that a billion times over? All this effort to find your shitty palisaded hermitage? Not sure if you're a narcissist or delusional.

People already nolife road building, and then use them to raid those that become accessible to them. I don't think they make them primarily for that, but griefing sure is their secondary use.

Besides, the edges are not entirely barren or uninteresting. I'm sitting on q50 water, a friend made his idol out of gold because he has so much of it, and do remember Zox's top clay was more than 7 hours away from the central grid. If you're competitive like factions are, unless you have already found the best nodes on the server it's pretty stupid of you not to expand your prospecting efforts by every means possible, and consequently clear the area from any annoying hermits.

This may sound stupid, but, how exactly do you travel to a charter stone??????
:?

Is there some function you must unlock by discovering them/lawspeaking?

As far as I know you can only travel to a charterstone from any other charterstone, or from the character creation area by interacting with the skull pole.

Patch is nice but I think its too late now... All my friends left and there is literally noone living nearby me  . Actually i'm only waiting for some raiding team to kill my animals because all I do on free account everyday is to farm tons of carrots to feed them. I really dont have heart to kill them... but it would be nice if someone just made me free from this boring duty and just raided whole village :|

Hermitting this world was much, much easier than in previous worlds because the map is larger and there were no teleports (except with roads, and these covered smaller distances anyway). Now that teleporting is in, hermits may or may not have some problems, we'll find out. Haven was always tought for people without backup.

im more referring to the time it takes to progress as a hermit, not the fact that you can be left alone. I worked on small hermitages in previous worlds which were untouched, but yes it's much easier in this world to disappear and be left alone, but things just take a long time to develop on your own

That's true, but if you want to progress fast enough to be competitive, hermitage isn't the right path. Community will always progress faster and get further. That's why humans gather in societies.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”

Progress faster for sure, but further? I don't know about that in the long run. In any community you still have your casual players and you have your hardcore grinders. Even just one or two hardcore grinders can get the same amount, if not more work done than a group of several casual players. Especially when they know what they are doing. This leads me to believe that most hermits are also simply casual players or maybe that's why they choose to hermit in the first place but either way I've known of several hermits/hermitages in the past that have had quality on par or beyond larger villages.

Victory is a matter of perspective. Some just want to enjoy the world others want to dominate it. Some just want to stomp all over others because they think it make them more powerful. It's a sandbox and build castles and some knock them over. :)
