I liked old Haven graphics. I like the new ones too, just different games. I still play Ultima Online, nearly all 3d mmos are shit. I still play Fallout Online (based on FO2 engine), I like to do a Fortress in DF, play some 4th coming on the occasion... I fail to see the problem... Actually people missing on those games because LOLOL GRAPHIX SUXX are tards !

That said, there was a lot of fun game mechanics in older games when the graphics weren't as good. Now games companies are able to spend a lot of money and technology improving graphics and effects in their games, but they often seem to be reluctant to try new things as far as gameplay goes, which then leads to the rise of Indie gamers who perhaps don't have the resources for flash graphics but also are willing to be more creative in game design.

I don't think that good graphics equals bad games, but I think that this correlation has lead to a lot of people thinking like this.

It's just harder to make complex mechanics with better graphics. Cause, well, if you have a really realistic looking game and then you are crafting stuff that pops up in your hands out of nowhere - it looks weird, thus it means you needs to sped more and more on visual effects. Or if you code a multiple decision and each one needs to have some complex effect on the world - it's easier just not to code some complex mechanics, saving both on programming and on visual effects )

In a 2D or ASCII game - you just write the text, or change the tileset, or give a different icon. Not a whole 3D model with animations, effects etc.

The problem is that cool korean mmo graphics game has not so big server load, as the sandbox game.
Btw, there still no computer what will handle Dwarf Fortress world in 3d. Even an engine with full terraforming world - there are always limits.

Just verified my account so I could play the older Haven and Hearth, as I have not been able to get the new one to work after countless hours of attempting on a mac. I can't even explain in words how excited I was to play this game again, and everything went perfectly for the first couple days. I wouldn't even be able to count the hours of my life that I have devoted this game, and I love you guys so much for giving this to me. However, I am also very disappointed. A couple days into verifying my account my computer froze up while on an adventure with my main character (Nikolai Jr), who I have spent probably hundreds of hours on at this point. When I went to log back on it wouldn't get me log in at my last location (typical, second time that night), so I attempted to revert back to my hearth fire. At this time it will not even let me appear again at my hearth fire, and I am immediately booted from the server. It does however let me log in to my scrub character that I have only used a couple times, so I know it isn't a problem with my computer (as far as the legacy version goes). I know for a fact I didn't die and I can see my character for a split second before it kicks me out. I was frustrated with you guys when I couldn't get the newer Haven to work on my mac, but I was perfectly content with paying the $15 to verify my account in order to play Legacy. Just really disappointed I guess, I doubt anyone cares so I'm probably just ranting to myself.

what client are you using? because if its on a custom client, sometimes you can just fix it by deleting your conf files. if its on default, then wait for loftar to reply back to you.

yep what Tonky says - would be good to give some more informations: What OsX version, what Java, what client, what Bit versions ...

create an extra folder where you can move the belt conf files into for testing - if trouble stays and they're not the fault you can move them back

Also for playing actual HnH on Mac read here:
