Wrecking ball is crazy OP! I bashed a single spot on a giant wall and it removed nearly the entire thing!!! WHY?!?!?!

That's just how the wall-breaking is. You take down a tile and it brings down random amount of adjacent wall tiles/cornerposts/gates. Has nothing to do with wrecking ball, afaik.

Cascade should be limited to 1-3 tiles, but should give the ability to hand-bash the freshly damaged section it ends in for 1h (or something around that) as long as you have vandalism claim permission. That would enable easy claim redecoration while denying external grief, unless I miss a downside or exploit.

I very much doubt wrecking balls will be used for siege. Their intention is indeed to fill the spot for the previous civil uses for battering rams, now that they require brimstone.
