Also, not sure where you got the idea that the mechanics of siege need to be fun. The stakes associated with siege is what makes it "fun". Losing your base is still losing your base even if you got to play a game of high stakes checkers before hand. I don't think making the checkers game fun is going to keep players around when their base got destroyed for losing.

Siege is fun until you get raided and then you ragequit the game.

Materials for making catapults are infinitely more expensive than materials for making archery towers. This seems problematic.

One can make a bot which builds archery towers 24/7 because they're so cheap!

Seems fair enough. You can prepare materials for a siege well in advance.

And yet one complaint we got all the time with the last version was that "huehue, noone can be bothered to wait 24hrs, too boring".

Also, maybe it doesn't have to be fun, but I'm fairly sure it wouldn't hurt if it were.

There was like a 1-2 hour window when you could be online to build new archery towers to defend your base. Any archery towers built outside of that window, I can build a catapult, let it charge for 2 hours, and smash the towers.

Um, no. You had 24 hours to build towers. You can build towers very far into your base, within reach of the walls, but outside the range of catapults placed at a safe distance from the wall.

Perhaps you have a point in that the attacker should pay a higher price, but I don't think siegeing is going to be entirely effortless as is.

It is not, no. Once the ram is charged, you can keep it rolling forward. Extra wall layers shouldn't bother you substantially.
