I see many posts about the cave dwellers being harrassed by bats and many other posts about the low level curio hunting from ant hills being a problem due to the hyper ants.
this has to be said but you guys are all upset over things which can all be avoided by a few simple steps.

1:- dont go into the caves to build houses and live and things until you have the capability of placing a claim down.
which if like myself you managed to get by night two you would have built some cheap pallisade and not needed all the aggro.

failing that though i dont understand why so many of you hermits and would be villages are inside caves already?
in a couple more weeks if your all still there you are going to be very vulnerable to attack.

2. Ant hills are super easy peasy, you can tell what ants are on speed and which are not. (((not to say i diddnt nearly die on my first raid of one of said hills) the speedy one got me down and the rest took it in turns to deface me and bite me everywhere.) note to self.. dont raid ant hills with 8 ants running around it)

but still guys its a fantastic game and i do admit the bats in the woods and on the coast are a bit troublsome but they are like everything else avoidable.

those of oyu in caves at present with trouble getting out...
sorry. i have no suggestion but get yeomanry or get out...

Agreed on the ants. All it takes is one sprint-speed ant attack and you know not to mess with anthills with one zooming around it.

But on the bats...

It's not so much that I don't like the idea of bats -- it's that they're so aggressive -- and they're the only animal in H&H that acts very different to their real life counterparts. Bats IRL are skittish, and would react like rabbits do now -- darting away. It would be okay if they reacted to attacks with their current defensive system, but to go... pardon the pun... batshit on you for walking near them, it's a bit ridiculous. Other problems are that they spawn so close to cave mouths, aren't guaranteed to stay peaceful if you move at crawl speed, and that caves are often so narrow that you can't help but move into one's aggro area.

Also, why are bats roosting outside at night? Wouldn't they be flying around feeding on bugs? I just see a lot of reasons to make them more skittish like rabbits.

Personally, I've got a claim in my cave, and some still spawn within that claim.

I've gotten my marksman up and bought archery because of this, following the advice to shoot them. Well, that doesn't really work either so far. I'm just playing the waiting game until they either get nerfed a bit like suggested... or until I can just move all of my stuff into the outside world.

Bats spawn outside. They also spawn randomly even with players in the area. Just had one of our guys have 3 bats spawn on his head and insta aggro. That is just a silly mechanic for a permadeath game.

Alright daynm. agreed if they spawn inside your claim then they do need a rework. as well as i saw two inside wome guys house upstairs... that was a bit overkill too. i mean if i built a house i wouldnt built it with holes for creatures to eat me in my sleep LOL.

Vampire bats do attack if you piss them off irl and they are a lot bigger than their cousins.

i too have a nice mm skill for time played among other skills however have yet to hit one. i suspect it is due to their agility.
yes guys my bar hits green in seconds but waiting did nothing good for me except get me downed thrice.
3hhp now and i have fully learnt my lesson...
bats are badass
stay clear if i cna help it haha

still cave dwellers remains my interest? hearth fire blocking wont last long so all had best get out i guess.
failing that though. building a fully enclosed palli inside is not a bad idea.
scent to get in and then thwarted by a wall is not a bad way to say MINE hahaha

Which is exactly what I have been trying to say in the other thread!

I'm pretty sure they are aware of that by now though.

Yeah I've got a pali enclosing the entrance with a claim behind.

Didn't know that bats can spawn in houses too...

Nowhere is safe. Given that, they obviously need to make bats STRONGER muahahaha

Also, vampire bats are about this big

But I would consider ants to be a gateway entry into trying to figure out the combat system, sure you can make them dangerous as hell, but then new players to the game might begin to have issues with advancement and trying to feel comfortable with fighting things.
