Your player base of terrorists are going out of their way to hunt down and destroy all totems regardless of where they're placed, even deep in caves

We ran really far away from our point of spawn and even went to another continent and haven't had any issues making our 10 leather or drying 2 claims. I agree with part of what you're saying but the claim needs to have a reasonable amount of dry time so you can bash it without having to break the thingpeace and use a siege RAM on 20 different claims when people grief by claiming everything around your base.

We ran really far away from our point of spawn and even went to another continent and haven't had any issues making our 10 leather or drying 2 claims. At the same time 5 hours is far too long as the game has psychopaths go go out of their way to hunt down and destroy every totem in existence to the point I''m starting to suspect location tracking hacks. I attempted 6 separate claims deep in 6 different caves and every single time they'd get destroyed within the last 2 hours and the 7th time I built in the middle of nowhere, far from anything and someone still found and destroyed it. I understand what you're saying, but the drying time is still far too long for the opening week
