Old system:
- I decide which item gives me the best bonus to my stats in a certain situation.
- I craft/buy that item with a certain quality.
- Now I'm done until I can get the same item of significantly better quality.
New system:
- I decide which gilds I need for a certain situation. One of my main's roles is archery, so let's go with that.
- I craft/buy gilds that add: perception, marksmanship, unarmed, agility en masse.
- I craft/buy a high quality random item (eg. bat cape) en masse.
- I apply mass gilds until I land all my gilds.
- Now I'm done until I can get the same item or or any of my gilds of significantly better quality.
It will probably take at least 20 a items/slot to get a decent amount of gilds on it, which you need for good combat gear. Thus the best way to get crazy combat gear bonuses is to bot huge amounts of clothing and gilds until you manage to fill one up with combat related slots. This is extremely grindy.
Edit: I think duane is talking about gear that takes two wear slots, ie. lynx cape, bear cape, ranger cape, hooded druid cloak, as they give no base stats and have the same gild slots as one wear slot items.
