You're left to think what you could have done differently.
  • Settling deeper into a cave might have been safer, but also meant being stuck there every time a bat or two are between you and the exit. Or having to fight your way out every time.
  • Avoid leaving any tracks of your passage. No chopping trees, no stripping them of branches, boughs and bark, as that too is a sign someone lives nearby. No paving or plowing, as that shows on the map. But there aren't many caves in the area, so it's likely they would have checked your cave anyway -as everyone is settling caves in the early days.
  • Ignore every part of the game that isn't PvP and just spend all your effort and LP into gaining more combat stats/skills, so if someone does get to you (and they are alone) you might be able to fend them off.

Yes? all those things do make you safer and less of an easy target early on, i dont get what the point of this post is, nothing you do should make you absolutely immune to being attacked, if you do these three things you'll be fine, if you're unlucky you may have to move your setup if you're discovered, but so what? this game would be much worse if there were strategies that always made you 100% safe

I agree nothing should be 100% safe. Like characters and everything they carry while offline. That's some bullshit that should be changed, to avoid using alts as banks. At the very least you should see them sleeping on the ground and be able to take their stuff with theft.
There's a ton of goodies hidden in alts every world, especially master keys and rare goodies.
Everything inside a palisade is also 99.99% safe since siege is shit and never worth the effort.

But you shouldn't have to play hide and seek for 3 days just to set up your first base.
From start to palisade it should take no more than 36 hours.

I'd rather see faster base setup and decent siege options. At least that shows some effort.

Would also be nice to see some effort against griefing tbh. Destroying stuff or dumping everything should take more time and more than 1 shp. People would be less upset about losing a their valuables over losing everything because of some asshole.

All very good suggestions imo

The first iteration of an experimental world with early game changes (especially to pvp) should only last a week or two.
A real test run: see what happens in the first 10-20 days. Then make the necessary changes and reset again.

The instant claim could have been tested like that. The old armor change (scrapped before launch too) could have been tested in the span of a month tops.
Does it turn to be an horrible system immediately? Scrap it. Otherwise tweak it and do a longer test run.

Same should be done with the current pvp changes that made it to 16.2.
How bad was cheap Rage? How bad is removing airlocks and safehouses?
Maybe it's bad and needs to be reversed. Maybe it's good and works fine. Maybe it needs some tweaks: the cost could be lowered even more, or other skills could cost more to balance it; gates might block you but houses do not, or maybe everything should block you including caves, burrows, and even boats!

A couple of weeks is plenty of time to run a first test on these things. And when the second test comes around, with the appropriate changes, players will also have at least an idea of how the system actually works in game.

If every test takes months, we'll never truly get anywhere.

that sounds exactly like "why dont homeless just buy homes?"

imagine you don't have your pvp fuck buddies, you start alone because everyone you know skipped the world due to pvp empowerment patch notes, where are you going to get help? even if you knew someone, who will go help you, when you may be a hour away, and they also have to protect their own base from cheap-10k-rage griefers

theres no travel weariness and being in a party unlocks every thingwall of everyone in the party

if you pm any pvp player that there is pvp to be had they will probably be interested

the point is you cant say you tried everything but didnt even try the only real thing that works

And you will still lose because someone used bots to gain fast STR
Others will say "skill issue"

It is a skill issue, although on an entirely different plane.

Skill issue. You don't need STR to use discord.

I don't think it's rly plausible right to have x3 the strength of somebody who plays like 2-3 hours per day efficiently as a hermit with no bots, but even if somebody with x3 your strength shows up rn you are stronger than them if you have 1 friends tbh
