As Jorb already stated, where would the water go? :)

I mean, the map is full of other immutable features, like mountains, rivers, rock patches, natural wonders, tarpits, &c&c&c. I'm not sure why wellsprings can't be one of them.

Just make them bashable with a siege engine or something at least heh, no reason an object like that should just be completely immune from terraforming in a sandbox game heh

Eh, I get that. But Wellsprings are super common no? If anything I'd liken it to caves. I wonder what's the harm in allowing this, or is it just something not aligned with the game direction? I personally would love to see some crazy, stupid megastructure built again. I think they're fun things to look at near the end of the world.

Humans move water all the time, just divert the flow. Wellsprings also are SIGNIFICANTLY more common than any other 'resource'. They also don't feel special like the others.

haven and hearth:

Want to erase 10s of 1000s of units of dirt into the oblivion? drop them onto a tile of paved ground and they will disappear into the void

Want to erase a well that has been dug 100 ropes deep into the abyss to access the murky depth of water below? just bash it in 3 seconds and you'll never know that a well was ever built there

Want to erase a naturally occurring rock with a stream of water coming out of it? You absolute fucking idiot. You moron. Are you fucking serious? Where do you think that water would go exactly? Did you think of that? Do you think the water would just disappear into the void? Start filling up the ground endlessly like a balloon? Have you even begun to fathom the consequences of these actions? Why are you so needy? How can you be so thoughtless? Doesn't the terrain deserve a chance to win? Literally kill yourself, you witless imbecile.

I think wellsprings should grow around randomly like trees, because water is alive.
