very nice update, id like to see more "under the hood" kind of updates like this focused on clarifying mechanics. Mystery and discovery are nice, but they're fleeting, one-time experiences. The longevity of the game's appeal can't rely on them, and it shouldn't make itself more frustrating by intentionally obfuscating information.

I fully support this move and any move away from total wiki reliance.

I'd say the one you want to use in 99% of situations is the faster one (and the edge-cases when you want to use another tool for quality reasons you can manually take it out of the belt), so like a butchers cleaver because most animals can be skinned using it, arguably, perhaps it should be possible to dual wield both butchers cleaver and a high quality stone axe to get benefits of both high quality and butchering speed but that's another topic.
Edit: I've been told automatic swapping for some tools got borked by the update (the one in question is woodsman axe and shovel for stump removal, but others might also have issues).

Interesting. Does this mean in the future we can expect appropriate themed gildings like Polished Porphyry Beads to get say a minor Mining Strength, Speed, or Stamina attribute?

I think a minor attribute bonus to Woodblock Yield or Tree Chopping Speed for completing a Beaver Den dungeon would be appropriately themed and better than the current bonus. Perhaps a minor attribute bonus for Stamina Reduction for digging/farming for completing Ant/Bee dungeons respectively. Bat is the only dungeon that really has an impactful completion reward.

im not sure i like this, the game had enough shit to keep track of already. feels like another essences vitality substance situation. i feels theres a reason we went back to MORE Q = MORE BETTER.

Love that idea!

Will consider!

Could also introduce various other minor things like e.g. "Raiding Speed" and discrete buffs to raiding Ant Hills and such!

maybe im just a hater and too casual to care about all those extra stats. aparently the server also can't keep track and shit itself lol.

How about adding the ability to upgrade tools/weapons for time or amount of use? For example, a buff with sharpening or oiling, etc.
