If the Wrecking Ball is not affected by the new (and expensive) requirements for a Thing Peace challenge, then those requirements are not going to affect small fry trying to scavenge from abandoned claims, and I don't have any problem with the Thing Peace change.
True but I think I was trying to argue that if a base has an inactive claim, you should be allowed to hand-bash the palisade so it can be easily scavenged. This is complicated by the fact that (even on world start) Palisade will be insufficient to provide protection if soak is lowered (Palisade hand-bashing immunity only kicks in when claimed and fully soaked.) because it would make it easier to grief other people's walls by repeatedly bashing them before they can dry.
Fresh outlook: simply putting up a Wrecking Ball isn't too unreasonable: actually it's something like "last chance for someone to notice the claim is inactive." Also if breaking into abandoned base is too easy, someone could go through all of them and raze to the ground without actually taking anything. Just to screw over both potential scavengers and the original owner.
Combine this with the people who need scavenged goods the most likely won't have the strength to bash Palisade anyway, I will realign my stance on this specific issue to "no changes."
As long as inactive base (as in, claim has run out of Presence or Authority) can be broken into with a Wrecking Ball, it should be fine.
