Edit: except cinnabar

I'm not sure if they're gone entirely (perhaps they're rare on lower cave layers?) but they used to exist a long time ago. They were removed in later worlds for balance reasons. I don't know whether for these boulders they went for the stone-replacement approach cellars have or if they're spawning ore boulders as well.

Ore boulders existed in worlds 8 and 9, I have fond memories of loading tons of smelters with q10 chalc to be ready the second tarkilns finish

They did remove them entirely on World 10’s generation as you can see in its patch notes (besides cinnabar since that became an ore later...shhh)

Somewhat glad to see them return although I agree with coles that having a specific option to do this (maybe via Tunneling/Deep Art?) would be obviously better than this fuckery

I know it's a spurious statement, but this hits on the complaint I have with this... A mining bot really will find this easy to compensate for, but an actual player enduring the tedium of mining now has another hoop to go through regularly. As someone who basically would spend hours a day mining I really dislike this addition.
I like and appreciate the idea of easier-to-find boulders of various materials and the potential for high-quality stone boulders, but I don't know if it's worth the tedium day in, day out, dealing with boulders popping up while mining.
I also have concerns about the troll pop insta-block cave-in scenario and the new difficulty in running from slimes/boreworms while mining in confined spaces. Mining has already become a very hands-on past-time with various issues to counter, this just adds another to the mix rather than feeling like a benefit.

mining becoming more difficult or annoying is a recurring theme for a while, it's not an accident, and was announced on livestreams or some threads

the only way to balance haven is default client democratize scripting, or some macro system, could become an educational game because players would learn to script in a blink

Just realized, that 1% of players that uses bots for mining bother devs more than other 99% who will now complete quarryman and miner credo with "chip stone" so easy, that I can say it's broken.
Anyway, never used bots for mining, so thanks for the update!

Interesting. I assume the stones/ores chipped from them do get softcapped?

No the ore is not soft capped when chipping is what I meant.

IE my axe(20) + ore wall (81) gave 50ish Q, it spawned a boulder. I chip it, I get 81 q ore.
