Oh see your problem is that your ideal compass is flipped horizontally, that's probably why you're having trouble

Again, though, that requires rotating the minimap, and a dynamic minimap sucks far more. At least the current minimap is consistent over time. I'd much prefer the solution of making the character marker rotate with the actual rotation of the player character.

it won't help anything
the problem is moving 1 way moves your indicator 2 ways on 2 screens (minimap and ingame)

you have static picture. your char in the center of ingame screen and your mark on minimap.
you move the cursor somewhere on screen and click
and your markers (character on ingame and marker on minimap) starts to move in DIFFERENT directions

Which will always be the case unless the minimap also rotates, which sucks.

Although this discussion is indeed a bit weird... I am on Enjoyments side here... (if I understtod him correctly)

I.e. with current 45*-lock you can't align top of the grids with north on minimap. I.e. you have to walk in the corner of your scrren to walk upward on minimap, and I believe that is the problem Enjoyment is trying to convey, apart from the suggestion to make map behave like GPS navigator.

I am indeed aware of the term "cognitive dissonance", and just for the record I'd like to state that it doesn't apply here, as it's not synonymous with any form of confusion.

Either way, it's not like I couldn't consider adding rotation of the minimap as an option for the weirdos that want it; again, I really just hadn't even considered the idea that anyone would want that. But, like, if so, would you want the full map window to also do that?

nope... the full map is okay to be straight hor-vert... as it a separate togglable window... and cognitive dissonance was used as a professional definition for what does human brain feels when he receives more than one visual reaction on 1 made action... like when your character moves to 2 direction at once on 1 click
