After a copious amount of popcorn, reading through all the Insight inducing posts in this thread, touching upon the surface of degeneracy expose, and days of worthless AND mentally degrading rants.
I have come to a single conclusion.

I pity whoever gets to moderate some of these people.

I think everyone in Polish community knows who I am irl. Doxing, stalking is really at high level there ;p About a week after I banned "a user" for few days, I received letter at my family home with threats to my life (written in a "funny" way but still)

I won't argue that the community is "special" if this is proper word to use

This community is no different than any other online gaming community for similarly themed games.

Ofcourse you won't see this kind of discourse in a Stardew Valley chat, but this is a PVP game with factions and fighting and has been a platform for arguments and beef for 15 years.

The main problem is that there is too much power in being a mod in a game like this, so it's mostly only desirable for people who want to push an agenda or bias, as you have very clearly showcased in your short stint.

A 3rd party or a community manager type would be great, but likely unrealistic.

I think that this forum being a 'less moderated cesspool' as people call it is probably just fine. It is no longer the main hub for discourse, as we have a great community discord that is fairly moderated.

In the meantime, I think people just need to cool off. I doubt there will be so much 'faction arguing' in here once the new world starts and everybody is busy enjoying the game.

Wouldn't you say it's also a main problem then to have one side of the community run a self-declared "official Discord" server? This goes for both main servers.

Especially since Discord is a much more used medium than forums nowadays. A problem partially/mostly caused by Jorb & Loftar taking no interest in this obviously.

Many discords are run by their own villages and markets and definitely represent a 'side' or a faction, and there is no real problem with that as long as it's clearly represented as such (I think).

However, the official discord is not run by any faction or 'side'. That is just an intentionally misleading communication that started during all of this silly faction drama. I am not even sure where that idea comes from!

Both the devs are in the chat and use it, and the moderation panel is large and consists of people from many factions, and people who have never been in one in their life. Neutrality was the goal and I think they are doing a great job of it honestly.


On that note, it might be an interesting strategy for these forums if such a thing can be implemented on this forum software.

A larger panel of mods that represent many factions, where all moderation actions have to be agreed upon by a panel?

I can say running properly discord server managed by Jorbtar won't happen. Simply because it would require 24/7 day moderation from their side, that's too much time and effort to put in

That much is obvious. But then either say that you don't have an official Discord server and don't let people market it as such. Or get a 'community manager(s)' to take care of it for you. I am just saying you are driving an even bigger wedge in your community by the way stuff is handled right now.

Not taking stance here which Discord server is better/worse, I couldn't care less.

Out of all the suggestions Oddity is the best choice for a moderator, all of these guys begging and proposing themselves are bound to be power hungry, biased and just plain bad.

Afaik Oddity has been around since haven exists and a super helpful and down to earth individual.
