Well coins were the primary currency used in the barter stands there, and there were a lot of stands. Suffice to say, coins were quite useful.

From what I can see, coins are very useful for large trade centers for sure. Wonder how much they got successfully used outside Venetia.

An important aspect of this was the fact that a central currency existed. Everybody traded in Crowns. There were also some other currencies, but nobody used those.

Problem with currency like crowns was. That one player was controlling how much of them existed. And could just make some for himself to buy off others valuable stuff.
So its not very good currency to use as somone can just make infinite supply of it with ease.

It's fine if there are stands that have both stuff for sale and stuff that is being bought. Then you can (in the same timeframe) sell some of your items for coins and then buy items using the same coins. The value of the coin is irrelevant unless it's a common currency like the crown, in which case you have to be sure that the people with the coin supply don't intentionally deflate the market. Besides, the crown worked well as you could buy/sell the coins for marginally more than it cost the creators to make them out of nuggets, so they essentially were backed by the value of the raw materials.

Since when are silver bars infinite?

Certainly in a small world with purportedly less ore below ground they won't be able to make that much coinage

I'll try not to derail too much, but this is, in a nutshell, the problem with any currency, modern, gold-backed, or otherwise. It's a risk we live with to create a more universal trade.

Well that was a weird new event for me. The most sense I could make of it was the it means some change in my fate thing. I got it by putting down a new table.
