I think he just chose values that will work. Not paying too much attention that it doesn't match the exact formula he gave you.

But how does that work if it has to be half and half again? Loftar also gave that formula but in my head the numbers given mean it would only use two types of stones .... idk, this is why numbers are confusing ... :(

I believe this is how it works:

If the three stone types are 1800, 120, 80
half of 1800 is 900, which is more than 120. Half of 900 is 450, which is more than 80. Your building will have the colors 1 2 3

If it's 1100, 530, 370
half of 1100 is 550, so it will skip whatever stone is 530. Half of 550 is 225, which is less than 370, so it won't skip. You'll get 1 2 3

If it's 1200, 700, 100
half of 1200 is 600, which is less than 700, so it won't skip, but half of 700 is 350 which is more than 100, so it will skip. You'll get 1 2 3

If it's 740, 660, 600
half of 740 is 370, which is less than 660, so it won't skip, and half of 660 is 330, which is less than 600, so it won't skip. You'll get 1 2 3

The only combination you can't get is 1 2 3

Firstly, @ Scoodles - I hope you understand that I'm not doubting you ... I'm just trying to understand the math. :)

@ barra - thank you for taking the time to try and explain it to me in a way I can sort of understand, lol, I was trying to work with the 2nd example you gave before I asked but I did sort of see it wouldn't be correct. It's still terribly confusing to me, I guess some ppl just have a blind spot when it comes to this sort of thing, or maybe it's just me ... :( ... but I do appreciate your explanation and can sort of see how it works, I'll just have to read it a few more times .... :lol:

660 isn't half of 740 ... neither is 600 half of 660 ... my maths skills are not good but .... :?


660 isn't half of 740 cause it have to be MORE than half ( "it's total is at least half"), so something between 371 and 739 will work.

Are you sure? The way I read loftar's comment was that if anything gets over-ridden, it cascades down. So you get 111 instead of 113.

I'm not certain. I've never tried to deliberately build that combination.
